K.C. Bhattacharyya is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (Now IIT-BHU), and post-graduate from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He joined Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (ISRO) in 1972, and participated in the development of ISRO’s satellite launch vehicles from the very initial stages. He contributed to the design and development of the Inertial Guidance Systems, development of flight software, and mission and software quality assurance of space missionsof ISRO. From 2002, he was the Director of North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) of ISRO at Shillong. In this capacity, he promoted the space technology applicationsin the North-Eastern States through several projects in remote sensing and satellite communication.

After retirement in 2007, he served as Adviser, Science and Technology to Government of Tripura,Director of Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL), and also as Adviser to Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (AMTRON). Currently he is a Guest Faculty at National Power Training Institute (NPTI-NER) at Guwahati and teaches Renewable Energy.

He has authored two books in Assamese, titled “BismoyakarAntarikshar Katha” (The Marvellous Story of Space) based on the personal experiences on India’s space technology development and applications, and also “Devi Shakti Swarupinee: Dharma, Darshan aruVigyan”, a treatise on harmony of science and spirituality vis-à-vis Goddess Kamakhya.

He is a life member of Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Indian Society of Geometics, Computer Society of India, and a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India).
